Esse cookers were established in 1854 and have been making cast iron range cookers and wood burning stoves longer than any other manufacturer.

Esse Woodfired Range Cookers

A Woodfired cast iron range cooker that is clean and easy to live with. Available in cooking only (WN), Cooking and Domestic Hot Water (WD) and Cooking domestic hot water and central heating (W35).

At the heart of this cooker is a quite extraordinary firebox. Designed to take large logs, up to 45cm long and 25cm in diameter, so chopping wood is kept to a minimum and refuelling is simple and mess free. If you find it easier to use smaller logs that’s okay too. The combination of efficiency and capacity mean that one fuel load can run the cooker for over 12 hours.It is designed for continuous use and can easily be kept alight indefinitely, requiring only occasional ash removal. With good quality fuel this should be just once per month. The fuel combustion is so effective that virtually all of the fuel is ‘incinerated’ cleanly, producing maximum heat and minimal ash as a result. Of course it will perform best using properly seasoned, good quality fire logs but our tests have shown that excellent results can be obtained using wood of any kind and quality such as reclaimed pallet pine. (WN & WD models only)

One of the characteristics that set ESSE range cookers apart is their outstanding levels of control. The Woodfired cooker continues this principle and offers a surprising degree of control over it’s functions for a wood burning cooker.

Two stage door latch – When lighting the cooker the fire door can be closed, slightly ajar on the second latch setting, allowing an ‘air boost’ which helps to quickly establish the fire while keeping the door in a safe and secure position, protecting the kitchen from any sparks.

W35 – features a secondary inner door with “peep hole” to check the fire and air control sliders.

Oven temperature control – Cooking temperatures can be easily controlled via a sliding mechanism just inside the firebox door. Simply open to increase the oven temperature and close to maintain the desired setting.

Oven bypass control – A lever on the side of the flue box operates an oven by pass for the flue gases, allowing them to go straight up the flue, instead of around the ovens first. It is used when first lighting the cooker to ensure smoke is immediately drawn up the flue and also to warm the flue so that it begins to draw as quickly as possible. With the ovens heated to the desired temperature it can also be used to boost the hotplate temperature for flash frying or searing without affecting the ovens.

The secret to the clean burning of the Woodfired ESSE lies in our unique patent pending Afterburn2™ flame jet system. Because the firebox is effectively a sealed chamber, the fuel can be burnt more efficiently at a slower rate and at a very high temperature. As flames, smoke and ash particles are pulled upwards by the flue, they are forced through a super heated stainless steel matrix where high temperature air is injected, drawing the flames into a precise shape and height, across the entire surface area of the matrix which can reach temperatures in excess of 1000° Fahrenheit. A second burn is then produced just below the incandescent matrix causing any smoke and ash particles to ignite, resulting in a very clean burn. Which in turn helps to keep the flue ways and chimney cleaner and ensures that maximum heat is produced from the fuel.

NEW Woodfired Cooker Model W-35 has a thermostatically controlled boiler with a mean boiler output of  33,000 Btu/h. W-35 has an optional summer running kit which reduces the boiler output to 12,000Btu/h to supply domestic hot water and a heat dump radiator.

Esse Ironheart

The ‘Ironheart’ cooking stove is a hybrid product, it is a cooker that burns logs beautifully and a stove that cooks to perfection. Available in cooking only (EW), Cooking and Domestic Hot Water (EWB).

Essentially the cooking stove makes the most of the two things ESSE does best. An inspired combination of a superb log burning stove and traditional, cast iron range cooker. Therein lies its charm and appeal as it is equally at home as a stove or as a range cooker.

The firebox has been specifically designed to burn 500mm logs, length ways, which it does in spectacular fashion, providing a splendid view of the flames through a large rectangular glass fire door. As the heat source for the oven and hotplates it has to be highly controllable, which it is, thanks to simple but effective primary and secondary air flow controls, the secondary control providing an air wash which keeps the door glass clear.

The Ironheart can burn multi-fuel and/or wood but for improved woodburning performance, a simple to fit conversion kit is available that will improve control and efficiency when burning logs. The kit comprises of a steel box that replaces the standard grate and ash pan, creating a deeper firebox with no grate. This enables more logs to be loaded and provides a flat base for an ash bed to develop,  which is essential when burning wood.

We do not recommend that the Ironheart  is used as a primary cooking appliance as it is also a stove designed to radiate much more heat (8kW plus) than our range cookers.

The EWB is equipped with a boiler and is capable of running a single radiator as well as providing domestic hot water.

• Easy and convenient ash removal. The generous ash pan can be easily accessed via the protective door and removed using a special tool.Easy access to flue ways.
• Occasional cleaning of the flue ways is easy thanks to a removable access panel hidden behind a hinged door below the oven.

Esse 990 Series

The 990 is the new log burning and mineral fuel burning range cooker for the larger kitchen. It has ALL the benefits of the Woodfired and Ironheart models but at 990mm wide, it is more imposing, but still 600mm deep and 900mm, high so as to look magnificent in either a fitted kitchen or as a stand alone appliance. 990 draws on classic ESSE styling from the 1930’s, brought up to date with practical and pleasing touches, such as stainless steel towel rail brackets and easy shut door handles made from plated marine brass.

990 comes complete with grate, ash pan and operating tools.  When burning mineral or solid fuel the wood burning plate must be removed.  990 can be specified as cooker only 990 N or as a cooker with a domestic hot water boiler 990 D.  A boiler can be retro fitted likewise a 990 D can be converted to a 990 N.

Esse 990 Series Features

• Width 990mm wide – The larger cooker for the bigger kitchen.
• Wood burning – A carbon neutral fuel giving off only the equivalent CO2 that the tree takes out of the atmosphere while it is growing. Efficient 74.8% (77% efficient for the domestic hot water version), low CO emissions of 0.3 and 0.2 for the domestic hot water model.
• Massive log capacity. 360mm long means less sawing and overnight burning.
• 900 tall and 600 deep to fit into a fitted kitchen.
• Top oven 48 litres, bottom ovens both 32 litres.

• Inner glass door allows more heat into room when outer cast door is open and enables the fire to be inspected without disrupting the air supply to the fire box.

Esse Electric Series

An electric cooker with minimal energy waste at point of use has to be a good idea, as approximately two-thirds of the fuel burned to generate electricity is lost in generation and delivery to your home. To put it another way the electric system in the UK is itself approximately only 33% efficient. Why use more than you need in your home ?

EC Electric ovens with ceramic hob

The Electric ESSE features a unique ceramic glass hotplate that has two sets of concentrically expanding elements. Each can be set to the required coverage and regulated to the desired temperature setting, enabling you to boil up to six pans or gently simmer just one small one. Maximum temperature is available in just four seconds so pans and hotplate kettles very quickly reach boiling point.

EC2i and EC4i (NEW) Electric ovens with induction hobs

Induction is the most efficient and controllable form of electric hotplate and as the hob remains relatively cool it is easy to clean, spills do not burn.

An induction hob only uses power when the cooking pan is on the hob and it effectively uses the pan as the heating element making it faster and more economical to use than a traditional electric hob.

Both the EC2i and EC feature two generous sized ovens, individually heated and independently controlled. The main oven also houses a powerful grill providing even greater cooking flexibility.

The EC4i features a five zone induction hob and an ‘A Rated’ fan oven with grill, conventional top and bottom ovens plus a slow cooking oven.

Ovens are finished in easy clean vitreous enamel and a plate warming cavity completes the cooker.

When you choose an ESSE range cooker you have the reassurance of over half a century of oil burning expertise and the knowledge that your new ESSE is a true thoroughbred, craftsman made range.

ESSE atomising cookers offer outstanding levels of control. Heat up times from cold are spectacularly fast, so their thermostatically controlled ovens can be conveniently turned on and off as required. The OC is available with an electronic programmer for added convenience.

Cooking, heating and domestic hot water – Esse O60, Esse O80 & Esse O106

All central heating models are available with a full range of electronic
programming options and a choice of three power outputs, 60,000, 80,000 and 106,000 Btu/h, enough to handle even the most demanding heating systems and requirements. These models are equipped with two burners, enabling the cooking and heating functions to be independently operated.

Esse gas cookers deliver outstanding cooking performance and provide exceptionally high levels of controllability.

Cooking and domestic hot water Esse GD

We also offer a gas model that will heat your domestic hot water with a maximum boiler output of 2.4kW (8,000 btu/h).

CAT Enabled Flueless

The highly efficient ESSE CAT and flued gas cookers both use a single gas burner to heat a hotplate capable of taking up to six pans together with two ovens and are more than capable of holding temperature for sustained periods of use unlike heat storage cookers.

The CAT Enabled flueless range cooker, gives you the cooking performance of
a range cooker with added efficiency, as no heat is lost up a flue. The CAT cleans the gases burnt by the cookers single atmospheric burner, removing the need for a flue to vent them outside.

As no flue is required, you have lower installation and servicing costs and
more freedom to position your cooker where you like.

The CAT can be programmed to come up to temperature three times a day via its seven day timer, or controlled manually. Manual control allows the cooker to be used in the event of a power cut.

Plus Module Series

Double the cooking capacity of any ESSE enamelled range cooker.

Plus1 – NEW

The Plus1 is a new wood fired companion with large hob and lower oven.  Just as the Plus2 has traditionally supported oil, gas and wood burning now the Plus1 can support electric and flueless range cooking.

The Plus1 is also available with a domestic hot water boiler.

Plus2

The Plus2 is available as a 13amp model with electric ovens, grill and gas hob or as a 45amp electric only companion with four ring ceramic hob. Plus2 gives you the freedom to complement your ESSE Range Cooker with additional fuelling options and cooking capacity.

Ovens are conventionally heated electric ovens, to complement your oil, gas or wood-fired cooking all year round. Each oven is independently controlled.

The gas hob model has the additional benefits of gas/electric dual fuel and a regular 13amp electricity supply. The hob features a triple corona 3.8kW burner for a large pan or wok and rapid 3kW burner.

An extended towel rail, kicker strip and connector bar allows cooker and Plus module to sit together.

You do not need to partner up your Plus1 or Plus2 with an ESSE range cooker. The Plus1 and Plus2 are equally at home as a stand alone appliance or planned into another part of the kitchen.

Plus2 is available in two depth sizes, 660mm for all oil pressure jet models and 600mm for pairing up with all other enamelled cooker models.
